In-House Legal Department
We regard ourselves as being an in-house
legal department for each one of our clients – whether it’s for those odd
queries that pop up; for a second
opinion on the legal angles of a business decision; for drafting a tricky letter; or just for the
occasions when you as a small but growing business need to bounce an idea off
someone who has broad business experience, a good knowledge of your particular
industry, and a legal background – and no potential axe to grind, beyond
helping to look after your interests. We
can help – and we do, often.
And also, for the
occasions when it suits you to present yourself to the world as having your own
in-house legal department, specializing in your field – we’re happy to be
presented in that way. If you have your own domain you
can, if you wish, set up a mail account diverted to us as ‘legal@’ or whatever.
The ‘Big Deal’ Service
This is one of our specialities.
Over the years you’ve been working
hard to grow, and suddenly you’re tendering for that ‘big deal’ you’ve been
waiting for. Or maybe you’ve already
tendered, and now it’s landed in your lap.
You realize that maybe there’s going to be more to handle in tying up
the legal angles than you had anticipated.
You’re going to be busy with the project itself. This is a time when it’s particularly important
to dot and cross the legal ‘i’s and ‘t’s. But you don’t want to lose sight of the
bigger picture and become immersed in legalese.
You need an experienced lawyer, with sound business experience and
judgment, and knowledge of your industry, who can help not just with the legal
issues, but also with their business implications.
Again, we can help – and we
do, often. We can draft the documents; we can review and
revise documents drafted by others; we
can help put you in the best position to take informed decisions; and we can negotiate on your behalf –
or we can help empower you to do so yourself, entirely as you please.
Neither the In-House Legal Department, nor the Big Deal service is in any way formalized; there is no ongoing commitment to pay a
retainer, and neither has to fit in with any particular structure –
they’re simply descriptions of ways in which we often find ourselves working in
practice – ways which work for our clients, and so also work for us.
The real point is that we are
flexible – we try to identify what your needs are, and to fit in with
them as best we can. We will agree with
you how responsibility for the various elements of what needs
to be done are to be divided between us.
We find working in this way is something that many clients prefer. It’s really just a question of how you can
best use our services, expertise and experience to support you in your attempts
to develop your business.
Wherever it is practicable and safe to do so, the documents we produce for you will be recyclable - when we are able to produce a document which you can easily and safely use and reuse in similar situations as and when they arise in the future, we will do so.
So if you think we may be able to
help you in any of these ways, mail us
with more details. In confidence, of course.
